Environmental portraiture is essentially anything that doesn’t happen in a photographic studio. The idea is that the portrait is anchored by the context provided by the environment in which it’s taken, so that it says more about the subject than a studio portrait would.

This is my favourite type of portrait, since it can give me the opportunity to get to know the people I’m photographing and for them to be involved in the picture-making process.
