Broken Britain

When I first moved here, some thirty years ago, this town was prosperous, bustling and active. I have seen much of its vibrancy diminish over the years; because of out-of-town shopping centres, too many supermarkets and the recent recession. The result is that you can’t but notice how many shops lie empty and how there are no basic shops: greengrocers, butchers and so on.

I wanted to document this blight on a still-lovely town, with the hope that I would soon replace each of these images with one showing the shop re-opened and re-invigorated.
